Heroes of Destiny
A typical Deva, Natan has been reincarnated countless times over the millenia, always striving to rid the world of the taint of evil. Lately, in his past few incarnations, he’s come to serve the Silver Flame, as it seems to represent the purest of the divine powers.
A devout follower of the Silver Flame, Natan dedicates his actions toward ridding the world of all kinds of evil, with special emphasis on undead, aberrations, and lycanthropes. During the Last War, he fought with his church for the Thranes against the Karnathi undead legions. This experience convinced him that the undead, in particular are an abomination and he’s devoted this incarnation to the fight against undeath.
Natan’s relationship with the Church of the Silver Flame is odd. He isn’t part of the ordinary hierarchy of the church, being called directly as an Avenger rather than as a cleric or paladin. He’s willing to take orders from his mentor, Cardinal ir’Woomis, on the understanding that ir’Woomis won’t give orders most of the time. The Church is bound to provide ordinary shelter and sustenance, and pass on useful information; ir’Woomis knows that his intelligence summaries guide Natan’s actions nearly as much as his divine inspiration. An emphasis here, a minor omission there, and Natan will decide on his own that he’s called to the location ir’Woomis had privately picked out beforehand.
Natan was following what he believed was a divine command to address some evil in Sharn when he overheard Freddy and the gang discussing their heroic quest to rid an ancient tomb of undead horrors. Clearly, this is where the Silver Flame is calling him; Natan knows that he is exactly where he needs to be.
